Pre Internship Blog Post (Goals and Concerns)

Hi everybody, welcome to my first of many internship blog posts!

Today I'm going to be sharing my thoughts on my internship which I will be starting tomorrow at Grid Alternatives!

• What are you looking forward to most about your internship experience?

I'm very excited to be starting my internship tomorrow. I'm most excited to get real world experience in a workplace setting and making an impact in my community!

• What are you most concerned about in your internship?

I think I always worry about incompetence and failure, though both are irrational. I think really sticking to a growth mindset throughout my internship will really help me deal with any adversity and help me grow as a person.

• What type of work do you plan to do, what are your hopes for your project, etc?

As of today I do not know what the project is yet, but I think it's something to do with green mobility and community outreach. I will update the blogpost once Stan and Claire (My mentors for the internship) let me know what the project will be. (Added Jan. 6) - Abril and I will be helping with the beautification and refurbishment of spaces within the southeastern community San Diego.

• What are your goals for the month?

I really hope to improve some of my collaborative skills (Communication, Listening, Asking Questions, Etc.) with other people as well as gaining new skills as I navigate through the internship.

• How do you hope this experience fits into your education and/or future plans?

I hope that this internship gives me more insight into myself and my aspirations especially for a career. (For example: did I enjoy working at a non-profit? Do I like working with teams of people? What type of work did I enjoy most?). I've thought about possibly (in the far future) working somewhere that helps fight Climate Change and the internships will give me a glimpse of what that could look like.
